35,000 new 50p coins commissioned celebrating democracy
Schoolchildren will be handed a newly minted 50 pence coin by their MHK to mark the 150th anniversary of democracy on the Isle of Man next week.
The first popular election to the House of Keys - by what was previously a self-elected body - in 1867.
Tynwald wanted to celebrate by asking Treasury for 35,000 coins to be commissioned and presented to pupils across the Island.
It depicts crowds waiting to hear the election results outside the Old Courthouse on Atholl Street between the 2nd and 5th April.
Members will visit each school and talk about the importance of the occasion - Speaker of the House of Keys Juan Watterson explains:
