Minister apologises for parking measures

The Minister for Infrastructure has issued an apology in the Keys for his proposed raft of measures to increase revenue for his department.

They include a 50p increase in several Douglas car parks, the introduction of charges for civil servants and politicians and a 50p charge for school bus journeys.

There are also proposals to charge residents of Douglas £25 under the Disc Parking Residents Permits Scheme

Answering a question on what impact assessment had been carried out on the scheme, Phil Gawne said he'd been tasked with saving £5 million in just 12 months and he understands the financial pressure many Island residents are facing

The question led to some heated debate on the proposed measures and a somewhat riled response from former Infrastructure Minister David Cretney . . .
