Minister dismisses hot meal fears

Older residents will not be marginalised

The Health Minister has hit out at suggestions elderly people will be left isolated by a funding cut for Meals on Wheels services.

It was announced last week that Age Concern - who have provided the catering for the last decade - would no longer receive a £150,000 per year subsidy.

Kate Beecroft told the House of Keys her Department was under no obligation to pay for such a service, and that the number of people using it was 'dwindling'.

Although Meals on Wheels are not being put out to tender, a list of alternative providers will be published before the end of the year.
