Minister to be questioned over pausing of sex education classes

Curriculum being reviewed after parents' concerns

The education minister will be questioned over the pausing of sex education classes in the Island's schools in the House of Keys today.

A new curriculum being delivered within secondary schools is being reviewed after concerns were raised by parents about the content involved.

Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse will be the one putting the question to Julie Edge, asking: 'For how long the delivery of relationships and sex education in her Department’s schools will be paused; who has been tasked with establishing facts about recent concerns; what will be delivered in its place during the pause; and what mechanisms are in place to assess the content of lessons in personal, social and health education, and in life skills.'

A ten question Keys order paper today (Tuesday, 28 February) starts with three inquiries on motoring issues.

First away from the grid is Jason Moorhouse who wants to know what use is made of the automatic number plate recognition system. 

Michelle Haywood asks about a 20 mile an hour speed limit round Port Le Moirrey  Port St Mary and any progress made while Stuart Peters is concerned about electric car fires on the ferry.

Other questions concerns the ground source heating at Castle Rushen new school.

Mr Moorhouse  who has seven of the ten questions also asks about the fitting of electric meters, when a new school room will be available at The Wildlife Park and the number of people who have visited Manx National Heritage sites in each of the last 3 years.
