Minister unveils five-year plan for adults with learning disabilities

Helping adults with learning disabilities in the Island live more independently and find real, paid jobs are the key features of a new government strategy.

 

The Department of Social Care says its five year plan promises to offer more personalisd support, tailored to the needs of the individual.

 

Aims include an expansion of supported accommodation for adults with special needs and more job opportunities, especially for young people leaving school or college. 

 

There's also a focus on the role of older carers and a greater role for  charities and voluntary groups.

 

Social Care Minister Chris Robertshaw says the department wants to 're-engineer' its whole approach to supporting adults with learning disabilities:
