Mixed feelings over Tech levels

A teaching union on the Island says it broadly welcomes new vocational qualifications being launched in the UK – but has some concerns about their academic viability.

 

Andrew Shipley, Secretary of the Association of Teachers and Lecturers on the Island, says the new “Tech” levels are promising because they’re backed by large employers.

 

Announced yesterday, the 142 new qualifications in areas such as motorcycle maintenance and baking will be taught in England from next year.

 

Mr Shipley says although they could help young people find jobs, he still has some reservations:
