MLC admits drink driving

Tynwald member "unsteady on his feet" after arrest

A Member of the Legislative Council has admitted driving while three times over the legal drink drive limit.

Tony Wild, who is 57, this morning pleaded guilty to drink-driving in Laxey at 8pm on December 12.

Police had been contacted by a motorist who saw a car being driven erratically and braking sharply.

The court heard the witness was concerned for the welfare of the driver.

Wild’s reading was 108 micrograms - the legal limit is 35.

He was approached by a police officer as he left the Co-op in Laxey.

The officer said he could smell alcohol and that Wild was unsteady on his feet.

He was arrested and subsequently took a breath test.

He also became ill while in police custody with a suspected heart attack and was taken to Noble’s Hospital.

Today, Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes adjourned the hearing until February 16 for a psychiatric report.

Wild, who lives in Fairy Cottage in Lonan and has no previous convictions, has also been banned from driving until then.
