MLC makes further court appearance over data breach

Juan Turner denies the charges

A member of the Legislative Council made a further court appearance on Tuesday.

Juan Richard Turner, of Glen Vine, his father David Juan Turner, and their companies, Island FM and Carrick Creative, deny breaching data protection laws between January 2016 and October last year.

Mr Turner, who became an MLC in 2007, first appeared in court faced with the charges on 13 December last year.

It's alleged the 43-year-old failed to register companies under the Data Protection Act.

The pair appeared before Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes for a pre-trial review on Tuesday (6 February), however, the case has been adjourned for three weeks.

Extra time has been allowed for their legal team to prepare their defence disclosure, and they're next due in court on 27 February.
