More details of power station fire released

The Island’s Fire and Rescue Service have released more details about an incident at Pulrose Power Station which saw the surrounding area closed temporarily by police.

Three fire engines and an aerial platform, as well as an emergency rescue vehicle from Douglas Fire Station were called to the scene shortly before 2pm after a fire in the 415-volt switch room on the third level of the gas turbine hall.

MEA workers shut off the power while firefighters made their way into the smokelogged room.

They put out the fire with CO2 extinguishers.

The MEA says smoke reportedly seen outside was actually steam from maintenance activities, the 'steam blow' which is currently being carried out.

MEA electricians say the incident was caused by an overheated circuit board.
