More frost and sun than usual for September

Most frosts since 1986, and coldest night since 1993

This year saw the highest number of frosts in the month of September in more than 30 years.

Three grass frosts were recorded last month, the most since 1986.

It was also the first time since 2016 that a temperature in excess of 20°C was recorded in September, while the 3.9°C experienced on 27 September was the lowest for the month since 1993.

The month was sunnier than usual for this time of year, with 170 hours of sunshine clocked up, almost a quarter above average.
