More records for Beach Buddies

Over 130 turn out for Douglas beach clean

In what's becoming a regular occurrence, more records were broken by FIM Capital Beach Buddies yesterday (Sun)

A total of 133 people turned out to help clear rubbish and debris along the 1.5 miles of Douglas seafront, left there in the wake of storm Emma.

The previous record turnout of 123, was only set in January.

Organiser Bill Dale says there were 23 new volunteers alone yesterday - equivalent to more than two thirds of the entire number turning out for events this time last year.

Bill says he was also delighted to see so many families turning out on Mothering Sunday.

Items collected ranged from smashed lobster pots and small pieces of plastic to the remains a wheelchair, two old mobile phones, balloon ribbons, half a shopping trolley and a car wheel, thought to be at least 30 years old and probably unearthed from the seabed during the storm.
