MLPs Marion Shimmin was social justice and anti-domestic abuse campaigner
Today marks 70 years since the Island's first female member of the House of Keys passed away.
However, details of the life of Marion Shimmin, have been 'generally ignored by historians' according to Culture Vannin.
Though in a recent development possibly the 'most detailed biographical sketch' has now been released of the Manx politician, thanks to her great granddaughter, Kate Matthews.
The Manchester-born music teacher, met her then-to-be Manx husband, Christopher Shimmin whilst on a break in Vienna.
Already an anti-domestic abuse campaigner, Mrs Shimmin applied her sense of social justice to her community in Peel and became a champion of the working class.
In an historic by-election in 1933, the Manx Labour Party member was voted in as MHK following the death of her husband, making her the first female politician in the Island's history.
