Motorist told to be 'squeaky clean' after getting 10 penalty points

22-year-old caught in charge of vehicle whilst drunk

A Ramsey man has been fined £750 after being caught drunk in charge of his vehicle.

Wael Mohammed Kassim, of North Shore Road, was stopped by police on 15 November.

Officers had been called to Ballure Road after reports of ‘suspicious behaviour’ from a motorist – they spotted Kassim’s black Renault Megane and found him urinating against a building.

They could smell alcohol and Kassim failed a roadside breath test – at Police Headquarters he provided a ‘significant reading’ which his advocate said was ‘sixty per cent’ over the legal limit.

The 22-year-old had previously denied the offence but changed his plea during an appearance at Douglas Courthouse this week.

Kassim’s advocate told the court: “He’s learnt an extremely harsh, and valuable, lesson from this.”

Magistrates also endorsed his driving licence with 10 penalty points and ordered him to pay £300 in prosecution costs telling him: “You need to be absolutely squeaky clean when it comes to driving.”
