It follows reports of drivers speeding in the areas

Police are reminding motorists to obey the 20mph speed limit in and around school zones.

The warning comes following reports of drivers speeding in the areas between 8.20am-9.15am and 3.10pm and 4pm.

The constabulary says when the school zone signs are illuminated, the 20mph limit is mandatory and enforceable.

These limits, it says, are in place in to keep children safe as they travel to and from school and even a small increase in speed can make a huge difference.

It adds while there are specific times to be cautious around, it can vary depending on the area, so motorists are encouraged to check signage.
