Mountain Road closure delayed until 2022

Six-week scheme now scheduled to begin in March

The Mountain Road will close for six weeks from March next year for reconstruction work.

The work had been due to take place later this summer but has now been put back.

Government says that's due to feedback from the public and to reduce the impact on motorists and local businesses.

The work will see reconstruction at Stella Maris as well as what's described as 'essential maintenance'.

Having initially announced a five-week closure the Department of Infrastructure says the six-week period will be needed due to the risk of poor weather and fewer hours of daylight.

It says March is the latest the work can start to allow sufficient time for the new surface to settle ahead of TT.

There will still be daily closures later this summer, although dates haven't been announced, for specialist resurfacing work which has to be carried out in warm weather.

Patching work, under temporary traffic lights, will also be completed.
