MU wants sewage plant location ideas after previous plans failed

Authority seeks recommendations for waste disposal sites in east

Manx Utilities is asking people for potential sewage treatment site locations, after a number of the authority’s plans have failed to make headway.

The organisation has issued what it terms a ‘call to sites’ in the east of the Island.

MU wants those with a ‘controlling interest’ to come forward with a possible location for a sewage pumping station, and/or a sewage treatment works.

It follows a number of setbacks for the board, after proposals for both the west and east of the Island were rejected by the community last year.

In July, the proposal for Laxey was voted down because of the negative impact it would have from the harbourside - a move considered a victory for the local community and campaign group ‘Best for Laxey’.

Now, some eight months later, the authority wants to hear from the same community, on what locations may be suitable to develop a facility considered vital for the future safe and efficient disposal of waste.

Manx Utilities says it will work with the owner to purchase the land and undertake such a development.

To get in touch you can email callforsites@manxutilities.com or write to The Project Manager, Call for STW Sites, Manx Utilities, PO Box 177, Douglas, Isle of Man, IM99 1PS - the closing date for proposals is 22 April.
