MYO to perform in Liverpool

Talented young musicians from the Isle of Man will get a taste of the big time on Sunday when they play a special concert at Liverpool's Philharmonic Hall.

The Manx Youth Orchestra will perform as part of a unique two-way tie-up with the youth section of the city's Philharmonic Orchestra.

The two are joining forces to celebrate Liverpool's year as European Capital of Culture.

It's called Music Across the Sea - a unique exchange involving 67 young musicians from the Isle of Man - and more than 50 from Liverpool.

Today's joint concert at Liverpool's prestigious Philharmonic Hall will give the youngsters invaluable experience performing with others before a large audience.

That will be followed later this month by a return trip to the Isle of Man for the Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, for a second joint concert - at the Villa Marina.

Part of the programme will be a new piece of music composed by Barry Russell, who's been working with community groups both here and in Liverpool.

Last year he worked with local musicians on a piece entitled 'Like the Wind' which was played at the Peel Bay Fesitval.
