Around 1,400 thought to be living with a dementia diagnosis on-Island
This week is Dementia Awareness Week, and it's hoped this year's theme of 'myth-busting' will help shed any misconceptions about the condition.
It's thought around 1,400 people on the Island are living with a dementia diagnosis.
It's a syndrome associated with an ongoing decline of brain functioning, which can impact memory, language and problem solving.
Jeanette Hogg is the Lead Admiral Nurse at the Hospice, Claire Cubberley is the Local Service Manager of the Manx branch of the Alzheimer's Society and Nicki Sinclair is the Clinical Team Lead and Occupational Therapist at Manx Care.
They've been telling Amy Griffiths more:
All this week, there'll be a number of opportunities to find out more information about dementia.
Dementia Friends will be hosting the following events:
- Wednesday 24 September at 6pm - The Roundhouse, Braddan
- Thursday 25 September at 1pm - Ramsey Town Hall
- Monday 29 September at 12.30pm - Douglas City Library
- There'll also be an information stall in the Sea Terminal on Friday 26 September where there'll be a chance to find out more.
