Staff shouldn't suffer says Chair of MLP

The chairman of the Manx Labour Party has called on the Isle of Man Post Office to work with trade unions to prevent a walkout.

Members of the Communication Workers Union, which represents postal workers in the Island, voted to ballot on possible industrial action at an emergency branch meeting over the weekend.

Plans to cut costs, including an effective 'freeze' on pay for new joiners and changes to the pension scheme, have been branded 'horrific' by the CWU.

The Post Office, which recorded a financial loss last year, is hoping to deliver the changes as part of a new five-year strategy.

A public consultation on how services should be run in future ends today (2 October).

But David Cretney says staff should not suffer the losses:
