Walter Wannenburgh moves from acting to permanent post holder
The Queen has approved the appointment of the Isle of Man’s new attorney general.
Walter Wannenburgh – the former solicitor general - says he’s looking forward to ‘embracing the demands’ of the job.
He’s held the attorney general role in an acting capacity following the death of the former post holder John Quinn earlier this year.
Mr Wannenburgh said: “As solicitor general I had the privilege of working closely with the late John Quinn QC whose industry and experience have laid great foundation for the further development of chambers in its support for the administration of justice and government more generally.”
The attorney general acts as the legal adviser to the lieutenant governor, Council of Ministers, government departments and statutory boards.
Mr Wannenburgh will be required to offer guidance on matters of law and issues relating to the Island’s domestic and external interests.
He’ll be officially sworn in at a ceremony at Government House later this year.
