More powers for police and courts, more protection for victims
New domestic abuse laws, introduced on the Isle of Man this week, have been described as a 'game changer' for victims and police.
The act came into force yesterday (4 January), which granted the Constabulary and the courts more powers to prosecute perpetrators of abuse.
That includes recognising coercive and controlling behaviour as a crime for the first time in the Island's history.
PC Sarah Corkish is the Domestic Abuse Officer for the Isle of Man Constabulary:
Justice and Home Affairs Minister Jane Poole-Wilson says there's a lot of work left to do in 2023 to fully integrate the new laws:
Michelle Mone-linked PPE firm liquidated and unlikely to repay £148m
Yellow weather warning for coastal overtopping
Proposed new laws would support homeless people on the Isle of Man
