New governor will support constitutional development

The new lieutenant governor and his family have been officially welcomed to the Isle of Man.

In a short ceremony at Government House, Deemster Doyle told Adam Wood the Island had a rich history and many aspirations for the future.

He said it was proud of what it had achieved to date, but there was still much more work to be done (first part of audio file):

In his reply Mr Wood referred to the Isle of Man's growing sense of independence.

He told an audience, which included Chief Minister Tony Brown, that he was here very much to support that continued progress in constitutional development.

The governor designate also said he was looking forward to exploring the Island and meeting its people (second part of audio file):

Adam Wood will be sworn in as the Isle of Man's new lieutenant governor in a ceremony at Castle Rushen on Thursday.
