New initiative to help 'intermediate' Manx speakers

'From class to coloayrtys' to be launched by Culture Vannin

A new initiative is being started, to help 'bridge the gap' between Manx gaelic spoken in the classroom, and the way language is spoken 'in the wild'.

Called 'from class to coloayrtys' which means 'conversation' in Manx, it's the latest effort from Culture Vannin to help intermediate speakers transition closer to fluency.

The online platform will use material from the charity's portfolio of films and recordings to help build the confidence of more advanced learners, before they engage with Manx speakers in what Culture Vannin describes as "their natural, and increasingly threatened, environment."

It's also aimed at speakers who can't attend classes, or new learners who want some more conversational material.

Using a 'collaboration hub' called 'Slack', there will be lessons and tips uploaded as well as a community function - allowing speakers to communicate and share ideas.

To sign up, contact Culture Vannin's 'language team' at gaelg@culturevannin.im.
