New laws to protect endangered species

The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry is asking for your views on new laws to protect endangered species.

The bill updates regulations which date back more than 25 years on importing, exporting and selling wildlife.

New laws are needed because the Island is signed up to an international convention but our legislation doesn’t match its standards.

Agriculture Minister Phil Gawne (pictured) says it’s about protecting some very fragile species both here and abroad (audio file attached):

You have until December 30 to submit your views to DAFF.
