New liquor licensing laws will provide for 'growing diversity'

Bill received final reading in HoK

New liquor licensing laws on Island will provide for the 'growing diversity' of community and social events on Manx shores.

That's the view of Home Affairs Minister Graham Cregeen - last week it got its final reading in the House of Keys.

Under it the Isle of Man's PubWatch scheme would become a formal process and see data shared between licensees and police in line with data protection laws.

It would also see powers to stop restrictive covenants being placed on former licensed premises.

Also, should it be agreed in future, certain responsibilities of the Licensing Court could be passed over to a new authority.

Mr Cregeen says he believes reforms to licensing laws are 'long overdue'.

Residents will get another chance to comment on the proposals in due course via the online government consultation hub.
