New MER sign to be in place by 'late summer'

Previous structure removed due to poor condition

A replacement for the Manx Electric Railway sign at Derby Castle won't be in place until late summer.

It had been due this spring but the poor condition of the base and Covid restrictions delayed the work.

Infrastructure officials say designs have been finalised for the sign, its base, and the scaffold needed to work in an 'exposed and challenging location'.

The new fixture will be easier to maintain than its predecessor - the original sign, which dates to 1993, was removed last year over safety concerns.
