New Moderna vaccine to be offered on Island

Jab targets original strain and Omicron variant

The new Moderna Covid vaccine which targets the original strain and the newer Omicron variant will be offered on the Isle of Man.

The bivalent jab was approved by the UK's medicines regulator this week, and will be on offer to those receiving a booster this Autumn.

Interim Director of Public Health Hugo Van Woerden says the new jab has 'the ability to lead to a broader immune response than the original vaccine.’

Health Minister Lawrie Hooper is encouraging people with long term health conditions to' take up the offer when invited, whichever vaccine is on offer.'

Manx Care is yet to confirm details of the autumn booster vaccine rollout, however it will be available to people in the following categories:

•         Residents in care homes for older adults and staff working in care homes

•         Frontline health and social care workers

•         All adults aged 50 and over

•         Those aged 5-49 in a clinical risk group, including pregnant women

•         Those aged 5-49 who are household contacts of people with immunosuppression

•         Those aged 16-49 who are carers
