New phase approaches for green scheme

A publicity campaign is on the way to encourage more householders in the east of the Island to take part in the kerbside collection scheme.

A three-year government funded trial comes to the end on October 31st, but Douglas Borough Council and Braddan Commissioners have confirmed they will extend the service for at least another six months.

During that period a detailed assessment will be carried out of the benefits of the scheme, and in April next year a decision will be taken on whether to make it permanent.

Chairman of the Borough Council's Works Committee David Ashford says running it without government support will make a big difference (listen to audio file below):

Onchan Commissioners have confirmed they will be dropping out of the kerbside collection scheme, on cost grounds, at the end of October.
