New schemes to assist jobless find work

Provision comes from private and third sectors

A 'substantial' increase in support is in the pipeline, to help long-term unemployed people in the Isle of Man find lasting jobs.

Two new training schemes have been announced in the House of Keys today by Economic Development Minister Laurence Skelly,

He said they will target those facing 'the greatest barrier' to employment, including under-25s with limited skills and experience.

Mr Skelly said the schemes, to be provided by the private and third sectors, will increase the range of support offered to jobless people. 

He was answering questions from Onchan MHK Peter Karran, who raised the plight of disabled people who've been moved off sickness benefits:
