New standard for Island

The Isle of Man is to have a new standard which will take part in Remembrance Day Services and other events.

The Merchant Marine Services Standard will be dedicated at a special service in St George’s Church, Douglas, at 3pm on Sunday (April 14).

Merchant Navy personnel, fishermen and boat owners have all been invited to attend in uniform.

The standard bears the Three Legs of Mann emblem and was commissioned to recognise the contribution made by the Manx Merchant Navy and Ship Registry during peace time and war.

The event has been organised by the Steam Packet Company and the service will be conducted by The Venerable Andrew Brown, Archdeacon of Mann.

For a number of years, the Merchant Marine Services has been represented on Remembrance Day and at other events by Steam Packet Company Masters.
Captain Bridson, now retired, was the driving force behind the new Standard, which will be paraded at events on behalf of the Steam Packet by cadets of the training ship, Manxman, the Isle of Man Sea Cadet Unit.
