New vehicle test centre opening next week

Gov't believes new layout will be 'much more efficient'

The Isle of Man's new vehicle test centre is set to open next week.

It's been confirmed the facility based on Ballafletcher Road in Tromode will open for business on Wednesday, 27 April.

According to government, the layout of the centre will be 'much more efficient'.

A one-way system will be in place with the aim of improving safety for vehicles at the site.

Meanwhile, the main inspection hall, officials say, has been designed to accommodate large trucks and trailers, and allow examinations of smaller vehicles in an area which complies with safety and ventilation standards.

Emissions monitoring equipment has also been installed.

Infrastructure Minister, Tim Crookall, believes the new complex will be 'well-used' and a 'real asset' to the Island.

Meanwhile, the current test centre will close tomorrow (22 April).

All vehicle and testing services will be closed on Monday and Tuesday next week (25-26 April) as part of the transition.

Government adds any disruption will be kept to a minimum to allow teams to settle in.
