Ramsey and Port Erin get new representatives for next three years

Three people have been elected as commissioners on the Isle of Man.

Two by-elections were held yesterday one in the north and the other in the south of the Island.

In Ramsey, the one vacant seat on the South Ward was won by Chris Martin, who received 278 votes.

John Powell came in second with 164 votes and Gillian Corlett was third with 108 votes.

There were 554 ballots cast, which meant a turnout of 21 percent for the by-election.

Four postal ballots were counted and there were also four ballots which were classed as 'spoilt' and weren't included in the count.

Local Democracy Reporter Emma Draper spoke to Mr Martin after the result was announced:

Meanwhile, at Port Erin, the two vacant commissioner seats were filled by Jimmy Cubbon and Karl Drinkwater with 378 and 331 votes, respectively.

Fenella Gray came away with 246 votes.

Nineteen percent of the population voted - a total of 564 ballots were cast in the village.

Of that figure six were postal votes.

Two ballots were classed as spoiled and were rejected from the count.

Speaking after the results were revealed, Jimmy and Karl told Chanelle Sukhoo they were delighted and can't wait to get started on community issues:
