NHS dentistry system subject to change

Govt taking dentists' feedback on board

The Department of Health and Social Care says it must develop a system of NHS dentistry which addresses the oral health needs of the Island.

At present, the department website lists "no current NHS vacancies available" at any of the Island's practices.

However, it acknowledges practices have capacity to take more NHS patients, but funding is required.

Representatives of the Island's dental practices met at Crookall House in Douglas on Wednesday evening (18), to discuss how the current NHS offering could be improved.

The meeting was attended by around 20 practising dentists and holders of NHS dental contracts, as well as senior Health officials.

The Department has committed to take the views of local dentists on board, as it shapes NHS dental care in the coming months.

A range of options are on the table to reform NHS dentistry on the Island by April next year and improve the offering to the Manx public.
