Nine new cases of Covid includes two unexplained

Public asked to stay at home with immediate effect

Nine new cases of Covid-19 have been identified on the Isle of Man, two of which are described as unexplained.

Government says six of the cases relate to the recently identified cluster, already self isolating, while another case was a returning traveler.

However the remaining two cases are not yet explained, indicating some level of community spread.

The Council of Ministers has met, supported by Public Health, and as a precautionary measure is asking the public to stay at home where possible, avoid household mixing and not to visit a health and care setting unless absolutely necessary.

The chief minister is asking that the large number of events planned for today and tonight are postponed.

Extraordinary Islanders at the Nunnery this evening is one, which has officially  been called off as a result.

The Isle of Man Football Association has postponed all its matches today, and hockey appears to be following suit.

All four rugby games also planned today have now also been called off.

Government are to hold a media briefing at 3pm.

The active number of cases is now 49.
