No child benefit changes despite UK/EU deal

Island unaffected by change

Treasury Minister Eddie Teare says there’ll be no change to child benefits in the wake of the UK’s deal with the EU agreed at the weekend.

On Saturday, David Cameron announced child benefit for children living outside the UK would be paid at the rate of their home country – sparking questions for the Island because of our reciprocal benefits agreement.

But Mr Teare says the Isle of Man doesn’t pay child benefit for youngsters who don’t live here, so we’ll be unaffected by the change.

He says the Treasury has checked to make sure people aren’t trying to take advantage of the system:
