Treasury minister says new residents would have to wait to be eligible for benefits and housing
The treasury minister says investigations have confirmed there are no contracts with UK companies to house asylum seekers on the Isle of Man.
It's after Onchan Commissioner David Quirk said he's increasingly hearing claims that migrants are arriving from the UK and being housed in local hotels at the taxpayer's expense.
Earlier this year, government dismissed claims that the top floor of one Douglas hotel was being used to house migrants for free.
The discussion was reignited recently after a Mannin Line caller admitted she had been misled by an artificial intelligence-generated video showing small boats arriving on the Manx coast.
