Rises over 1% must be funded by depts
There is no extra money to fund pay increases of more than 1%.
This has been clarified in a written answer to a Tynwald question from Rushen MHK Juan Watterson.
He asked Treasury Minister Alfred Cannan what plans each government department had for funding such increases.
In his reply Mr Cannan says it's been clearly stated in the government pink book that pay awards in excess of 1% must be funded by Departments through their existing budgets.
Teachers' union the NASUWT has recently submitted a detailed pay claim to the DEC, calling on the Department to introduce an above-inflation pay award, saying teachers have seen real-term pay cuts of up to 25 percent - substantially worse than anywhere else in the UK.
