'No fault divorce' will move a step closer today

House of Keys to discuss Caine's private member's bill

Legislation that would enable 'no fault' divorces on the Isle of Man could take a step closer to reality today.

Garff MHK Daphne Caine's private member's bill is in for its second reading before the House of Keys.

Mrs Caine says for a relatively short bill, it would change the lives of many Manx citizens:

It follows a public consultation, where 94% of those who responded were in favour of the no fault divorce principle, 62% supported a 26-week process, and around a quarter thought there should be no minimum period.

Mrs Caine told Dollin Mercer she was pleased with public engagement on the issue:
