The Manx government says it has no intention of introducing identity cards.
The authorities are keeping an eye on developments in the United Kingdom - and will assess the implications for the Island if and when ID cards become compulsory there.
Although the Manx government has a neutral stance on the issue - if the UK brings-in the cards, the only practical option may be to follow suit.
