No plans for all-island speed limit following Coroner's comments

Infrastructure Minister David Cretney says there are no plans to introduce a national speed limit on the Island’s roads.

Last week, during an inquest into a biker who died after crashing at 100mph in a derestricted zone, Coroner John Needham suggested the government might breach human rights laws about protecting the life of its citizens if it didn’t have such a limit.

During the case, director of highways Richard Pearson said he felt the Island needed a national limit – but his minister has now ruled that out.

Mr Cretney says he’ll also be seeking legal advice about possible human rights implications:
