No plans for Children's Commissioner

Politicians spoke in favour of the role in 2021

Chief Minister Alfred Cannan has confirmed there are no plans for a Children's Commissioner.

The role would have a broader scope than the currently installed Children's Champion - which acts as voice for kids who are in care, young carers and children with complex needs.

It comes after former Children's Champion Daphne Caine asked if there is potential for the new role to be implemented and what progress is being made.

Tynwald members voiced their support for the introduction of a Children's Commissioner back in 2021.

Daphne Caine resigned from the position following changes to the role, focusing on just vulnerable children only, which she claimed most who came to her for support fell outside the new criteria.
