No risk from airborne asbestos - DoT

A claim by the union Unite that the Sea Terminal in Douglas is riddled with all forms of asbestos and should be demolished, is being rejected by the Department of Transport.

Health and Safety officials stopped refurbishment work in an unoccupied part of the building, after traces of the substance were found in an area where two previous attempts had been made to remove it.

DoT spokesman Rodney Christopher says the department is managing the asbestos that remains to ensure there is no risk, and tests have been carried out (play attached audio file):
