Noble's Park group to face judicial process

Police urge parents and guardians to ensure children know the rules

A group of young people accused of breaking Covid restrictions by gathering at Noble's Park will face the judicial process.

Police were called to the area yesterday evening following reports of youths congregating at the park.

In a statement, released to Manx Radio, the Isle of Man Constabulary says in this case the group is being dealt with through enforcement.

It stresses that the majority of young people are being responsible, and following the regulations, but a small number of youths and adults are not always sticking to the rules.

Officers say they will aim to educate and explain when anyone is found to be in breach of Covid laws but that repeat offenders will face a more robust approach.

Eastern Neighbourhood Inspector Karl Breadner said:

"We understand that the public have concerns that some of the Island’s young people are frequently congregating together and breaching the Island's Covid regulations which could increase the risk of spreading the virus. As a community we must remember that the vast majority of young people are responsible and follow the regulations. It is unfortunate that on occasion a small number of not just young people but adults as well during this lockdown do not always follow the regulations and could increase the risk of spreading the virus.

"Our aim when dealing with people who breach the regulations whether they are a young person or an adult is to engage, explain and educate people. For those who do not take this advice on board, place people at significant risk or repeatedly break the rules we will take a more robust enforcement approach with them. As in the case from last night the young people from Nobles Park have been formally dealt with via our enforcement approach and will go through the judicial process for the appropriate outcome.

"We strongly advise people to follow the Covid regulations and urge parents/guardians to educate your children of the regulations."
