Norman McGregor Edwards elected in Port St Mary

Presiding officer thanks voters for 'encouraging' 28.8% turnout

Retired civil servant Norman McGregor Edwards is the newest member of Port St Mary Commissioners.

It follows a by election in the village on Friday, 24 August.

Mr McGregor Edwards secured a significant victory over his fellow candidates, receiving 277 votes.

Private nanny Jillian Margaret Hamilton received 85 votes, while chef Karena Thewlis received 84.

There were three spoilt papers.

Turnout for the contest was 28.8%, which is more than 10% higher than recent local authority by elections in Douglas and Ramsey.

Mr McGregor Edwards will serve on the board until 2020.
