Northern firm helps nesting birds

AFD Group places hedgerows along 100-metre stretch

Hundreds of different species of hedging have been planted alongside the Jurby Road on the outskirts of Ramsey.

The AFD Group has placed the RSPB approved hedge along a one hundred metres stretch on the approach to their site.

AFD has been at the forefront of biofriendly initiatives in a number of areas.

This planting mixes together hawthorn, blackthorn, bird cherry and dog rose with other bird friendly species, providing they say homes also for birds insects and other small animals.

The initiative is also aimed at the local honey bee population.

When the hedge grows it will provide cover for nesting birds, along with providing a wide variety of berries, seeds and sloes .
