National Sports Centre swimming pool officially re-opens

Refurbishment work began on 4 August 2018

Certain sections of the facility remain off limits

The swimming pool at the National Sports Centre in Douglas has officially reopened.

Despite work on certain sections of the facility still ongoing, the pool is now in functioning use following a multi-million pound refurbishment.

Extensive improvements began on 4 August last year, which included a replacement moveable floor of the 25 metre competition pool.

Updated accessibility was also a key part of the plans, as well as a revamp of the changing areas.

However, delays were caused when it came to the design, manufacture and installation of the flumes in the leisure pool.

That area remains out of use and it is understood the pool will have to close again in the not too distant future to allow the rest of the renovation to be completed.

No timetable has been issued by the Department of Education, Sport and Culture as to when that next closure will occur.

Paul Bridson is Head of Sport and Recreation.

He told Manx Radio Sport he's pleased that kids will be able to enjoy the facility for the remainder of the summer holiday:
