Nursery closures confirmed by DEC

The closure of its pre-school and nursery facilities has now been confirmed by the Department of Education and Children.

The 11 department-run, or part-run pre-school groups are to close on August 31.

The DEC says some of the money saved by the move will be used to offer support to parents who'll need to find private sector nursery care for their kids.

Also set to go are, as thought, the Family Library and Mobile Library, while Bride School's closure has also been confirmed.

Other savings are set to be made by stopping the Primary Modern Language Service, charging for music lessons and making university students on four-year courses pay £5,000 instead of £1,000 for their tuition fees in their final year.

That last change will not affect those who have already started their courses, though.

Manx Radio will have much more on this throughout the rest of the day.
