Objections over war memorial changes

A row’s brewing between church authorities and the body that preserves the Island’s war memorials over Peel’s monument to the fallen.

Work inside the cathedral grounds has replaced a stone surround with grass, which the government’s preservation of war memorials committee says makes it inaccessible to the disabled.

Committee member Roger Christian says it’s a particular concern because Remembrance Sunday isn’t far away.

Tweeting a response to Manx Radio, the cathedral's representatives say, "A road way full of potholes and three uneven steps have been replaced with a new road surface and level access without steps".
