Official review hears election concerns

Cabinet Office criticised by parish stalwart

The organisation of this year's Manx general election has come under scrutiny at the first sitting of an official review body.

A Tynwald Select Committee is examining concerns raised about September's contest, and has today taken evidence from its first four witnesses.

Chaired by David Cretney MLC, the panel is looking at issues ranging from the promotion of public meetings before polling day, to the counting of votes.

Captain of the Parish of Onchan Peter Kelly was first to appear.

He criticised the Cabinet Office in the run-up to polling day, for dropping the traditional newspaper public notices for requisition meetings.

He was also unhappy at what he claimed was inadequate publicity given to the new constituency boundaries:
