OFT: 'We will take enforcement action against Isle of Man Energy if needed'

Follows ongoing issues with gas bills

Enforcement action will be taken against Islands Energy Group if it doesn’t resolve customer issues in a ‘timely manner’.

The Office of Fair Trading held a meeting with the company on Monday following a number of complaints about billing.

The energy provider has blamed a ‘backlog of complaints’ and the OFT says it’s committed ‘significant resources’ to help customers who are having issues.

Chair of the OFT John Wannenburgh said: “The OFT is fulfilling its role as the ‘consumer champion’ and will not hesitate to take appropriate enforcement action should the billing issues persist beyond the next few weeks.”

He told Tynwald today the current situation is 'intolerable':

The OFT adds that it’s working ‘proactively’ with Isle of Man Energy and the Communications and Utilities Regulatory Authority to resolve the problems.
